Anton Sailer was a versatile German artist who worked as a writer, painter and graphic artist. At first, he studied at the Munich School of Applied Arts, e. g. under Robert Engels and Willi Geiger. Afterwards, Sailer moved on to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he was accepted into Franz Klemmer's drawing class. From 1926 he continued his studies at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. He then worked as a freelance painter. In 1935, Sailer returned to Germany from France, from 1936, he worked as an editor at the Ullsteinhaus in Berlin. After the the Second World War, Sailer moved to his native city of Munich, where he again worked as a freelance artist. With his works, Sailer was constantly involved in the "Great Munich Art Exhibition" at the Haus der Kunst. He also exhibited in several solo exhibitions. Sailer was a member of the Münchner Künstlergenossenschaft (Munich Artists' Cooperative) and worked for many years in the management of exhibitions in the Haus der Kunst on Munich's Prinzregentenstraße. He was also a contributor to various magazines, such as Simplicissimus. From 1962 to 1973 he also worked as a freelancer for the Süddeutsche Zeitung. In 1968, Sailer received the Verdienstkreuz am Bande (Cross of Merit, Member) and the medal “München leuchtet” (Munich is illuminated) and in 1973 the Bavarian Order of Merit.
