William Beattie (1793–1875) skót orvos, költő, újságíró és utazó, a neves grafikus, W. H. Bartlett társaságában beutazta Svájcot. Kettejük közreműködésével több gyönyörű, reprezentatív útleíró albumot jelentettek meg. E kötet az író hazáját, Skócia városait, hegyeit és régi várait bemutató munka első kiadása. Összesen 118 nagy méretű, finoman kidolgozott acélmetszetű látképet tartalmaz.
