Franz Schensky, a native of Heligoland, is one of the pioneers of black-andwhite photography and holds a firm place in German photography history. Franz Schensky is known for his dramatic images of the sea showing the power of waves and the facettes of seawater in all its nuances. He was the premier chronicler of the island of Helgoland.
