Daimer had studied Chemistry at the universities of Vienna and Graz. He graduated with a doctorate in 1913. He worked from 1914–1919 as an assistant at the Scientific-Photographic Institute of the Technical University in Dresden and from 1920 to 1921 as a chemist and head of the Photographical Department of the Schaerffelen Paper Factory in Heilbronn am Neckar, from 1921 onwards as a chemist for dry plate producer Perutz in Munich, and taught at the Vienna Graphic School from 1923 to 1947, the same period Rudolf Koppitz held a position as professor there. Beside the technical aspects of photography Daimer also engaged in producing autochromes and fine art prints in various processes. He found his favorite subjects in the Alps. From 1926 onwards he also published several articles in photographic journals. During the 1940s he was editor-in-chief of the journal ”Photographische Korrespondenz“.
