The parents of Wenzl Weis were the Kurschmied Josef Weis and his wife Eleonora Weis. He himself did from 1872 A photographer apprenticeship at Ernst Pflanz in Marienbad and then worked in photo studios in Innsbruck, Graz and Vienna. In 1888 he visited courses on the Teaching and Experimental Institute for Photography and Reproductive Procedure in Vienna. In 1898 he took over the Atelier Margit in Vienna and specialized in Portrait photos. In 1900 Weis became the hope of the archduke Karl Stefan appointed.
Weis was one of the co-founders of the Association of photographic employees, whose chairman he became in 1891. He was In addition, a member of photographic society and the Austrian Photographer association, whose chairman he became. From 1904 to 1911 he was Responsible editor of the "Austrian Photographer newspaper" as well 1911–19 of the specialist journal “The Bund. Austrian professional photographs ”.
