Otto Robert Nowak was an Austrian history, genre, and portrait painter. Nowak graduated from the General Drawing School, was a guest student at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in 1891, and from 1893 a full-time student at the Academy's General Painting School under Julius Berger. He also studied at the Master School for History Painting under Siegmund L'Allemand and Franz Rumpler. From 1899, he worked as a freelance painter and taught painting. He was friends with the architect Max Hegele. Hegele owned a house in Weidlingau near Vienna, where Otto Nowak and his wife Hedi Nowak-Reimer spent many summers. Both artists were members of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. In addition to drawings, gouaches, and watercolors, Otto Robert Nowak created portraits and history paintings in oil, landscape paintings, religious art, and small-format genre paintings depicting 19th-century Biedermeier Vienna. One of his favorite subjects was the life of Franz Schubert. Otto Nowak’s works are accessible at the Museum of the City of Vienna. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items.
The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
